| Anyone still read this? It's probably my least-used social networking account.

| I've really been neglecting my Xanga these past months. I guess it's just that I don't have as many friends on here that regularly update, as opposed to my LiveJournal. Even there, I'm not posting quite as much as I used to. I've thought about shutting it down, but I never like ending blogs. Oh well, I'll think about it more later.
Quick points:
- Out of school for summer. One more year to go
- Working at my HCA internship again, doing basically the exact same job as last year. It's still a good job.
- Got re-elected as MTSUAC president for the last time. Got to spend the year showing people whatever it is that I do.
- MTAC went really well. I enjoyed my first year on staff and am staffing again this year. Next year is MTAC Ninja and is all about ninjas and samurai and kung fu fighting and all that fun martial arts stuff.
- Actually started driving more now. I'm borrowing my stepmom's car more on my own volition. Even got pulled over for the first time just last night. It was for failing to completely stop when turning at a red flashing light. You know, like how they turn red lights at night to yellow flashing or red flashing. No ticket though. I thought I handled it well.
- Got a couple of articles published in the campus paper Sidelines. One was messed up in editing and had a weird paragraph in it that made no sense. The other seems fine.
- Iron Man, Speed Racer, and The Incredible Hulk were awesome, being the only summer movies I've seen yet. So Glad Marvel is doing an inter-movie continuity.
- Finally, I have a new girlfriend, Tina, since late March. Things have been going pretty well on that front.
I guess that's it for the recap. Later.
| I was hopeful at the end of last semester that relationship drama would
take a break, but it seems that hope was misplaced. Sometimes, people
are too stubborn or naive to know when to just let go, and the advice
everyone gives is heard but does not reach all the way through because
they hang onto something. I don't know if it's hope, familiarity, fear
of change and the unknown or what, but it seems that whatever this
thread is made of can drag everyone down if not tended to correctly and
carefully. However, that doesn't seem to be happening.
Dealing
with other people's relationships is hard and tiring work, but I'm glad
to do it. It's part of friendship. It just gets so frustrating if the
issue just keeps continuing on and on, dancing the same old dance.
That's
not entirely fair though. This whole weekend has been hard and tiring
ordeal. Doctor's appointment and the whole White Day party was Friday.
The doctor said I can take my splint on and off to exercise my finger
and get it checked out again in a month. The party, while not heavily
attended, was still fun and a success in my eyes.
The same can
be said for the ADA on Saturday. That went well as well. The planned
gaming tournament was ditched though due to lack of interest, so Brawl
was played for most of the time in the gaming room in its place. The
anime room was taken over my live action Japanese series and was
seemingly well received too. Matticus' party after the ADA was pretty
fun, aside from a couple of issues. It was hard to believe that the
Star Wars Holiday Special was even worse than I remembered though.
Those
"couple of issues" raises a point I've been thinking about. The
internet can provide anonymity. However, the connection of my blogs to
my real life, especially in the regards of my readers, effectively
strips away that anonymity for certain subjects, often those I most
wish to vent about. In one way, it's not right to discuss issues
concerning other people in such a public forum, even if this post was
set to friends only. However, sometimes those issues are such that you
need an outside opinion or suggestions or just have to get off your
chest. Apparently I need opinions and suggestions as I seemed to have
mishandled certain issues this weekend without even realizing it. Then
again, do you ever really realize it? If you did, then you probably
wouldn't be screwing up or hurting people.
I think I said that
as vaguely as possible while saying something to allow some venting.
Those close to the situation or actually involved may understand that
last paragraph. If not, I guess contemplate asking the internet for
help with personal issues vs the privacy rights of those involved in
the issues.
As for now, I'm tired. This week, I'm got a
feature story to finish, a web site to build, That doesn't even mention
the last issue of Newtype USA, the first issue of PiQ and an issue of Protoculture Addicts I need to go through to compare the Quality of Newtype with it's replacement of PiQ and to decide which magazine I prefer. It it's Newtype, then I guess I'm SOL.
| It snows here when I'm in Florida.
I went to Florida Sunday night after two plane trips and a stop in North
Carolina. After landing in Jacksonville, my mom and stepbrother picked
me up and took me to their home in this town called Palm Coast over an
hour away. Palm Coast is a fairly new little town, incorporated in 1999
as the city signs say, between St. Augustine and Daytona. The drive was
pretty dark due to the fact that it was night and that Florida, or at
least this part, doesn't care for a lot of street lamps.
For
the most part, I've stayed at my mom's house, watching tv and movies
while occasionally getting online to check email and forums. Did some
driving around with my mom. Yesterday was probably the biggest day of
doing anything else though. When my step brother got back from school,
we went to go get hair cuts, as I had been needing one for a couple of
months now. As usual, I don't care for it. I never like new hair cuts.
I should be fine with it by MTAC though, so there's that.
Afterwards,
we drove around and found our way to the beach. It made me wish I
really didn't have this splint on. I haven't been to the ocean in
years, and I really wanted to jump in, but I still have this thing on
my hand, as well as no swimming clothes with me. Heck, I was still
wearing my semi-nice shoes since the whole beach part wasn't planned
when we left. Still, I took off my shoes and socks, rolled up my jeans
and ran through the water and sand.
This morning, my mom went
to the hospital for surgery on her hand, so I had to get up at 4am to
go with her to the hospital. I got up pretty well, but I mostly slept
in her hospital room while waiting on her. After her surgery and we
could leave, I fulfilled one of my main points of this trip and drove
my mom and stepbrother back home. It wasn't a bad drive. I'm getting
more accustom to actually driving. The whole tiredness from not getting
a lot of sleep didn't help much, but it didn't really hurt much either.
It is nice to see how much Florida cares for their children, making
cars slow down to 40 mph in a school zone.
The rest of Thursday and Friday were rainy, and as such, I didn't really go anywhere. Give me time to finish Code Geass and play more Phoenix Wright though. Had to get up at 6am this morning (5am Central time) to get ready for my flights back. Had the same stop in North Carolina and eventually got back to Nashville a little after noon. There was still plenty of snow around some places though, like my yard.
It was deep. On the ride home, my dad rolled his window down and got
some snow off the windshield to throw at me, and I did the same. Yes,
that's right, we had a snowball fight while he was driving, and this
was on Briley Parkway.
For most of the time since I've been back, I've been mostly checking
out the new version of this anime fan-contribution site called theOtaku.com.
It was actually where I had my first blog at. The new version was a
massive overhaul, and I think the blogging feature kind of suffered, as
well as the general intuitiveness of the site. Oh well.
For the rest of the night, I have some stuff I need to catch up on.
Laundry, paperwork, taxes, sentai watching, getting my client an
acquittal in a murder case...
I need to get one that.

| | Currently Watching Godzilla By Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo, Hank Azaria, Kevin Dunn see related | After finding out Friday morning that I had broken my
finger at the park last Sunday and putting it in a splint, I headed off
to Con-Nooga, a first-year general sci-fi con in Chattanooga, Tenn with
Cole and John to promote MTAC. All the fun on the trip was mostly from
hanging out with them. The con itself was kind of slow. Given, I was
stuck in the dealer room/exhibition hall most of the time there, so I
missed a lot of the actual con stuff, but the general feel from the
dealer room itself was slight boredom. It doesn't help that the dealer
room was located a good bit away from the rest of the con in another
building at the complex, requiring walking or driving through the
parking lot to get there. At least I got to talk to one of the dealers
a lot, even about Gundam and Macross, and it's always good to have a
geeky conversation every now and then. I even bought some Macross and
Kamen Rider Den-O figures from him.
Speaking of geeky, we all stayed in the hotel room Saturday night and
watched Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze and the American Godzilla
movie instead of the usual late-Saturday-night con party stuff. Still,
it was fairly enjoyable staying in and watching TV, especially since
most of us were just plain tired.
As for the whole promoting MTAC thing, I think we did a decent job
given the low turnout. We got a few people interested in the con from
the anime 101 panel that Cole and I gave. Being my first actual panel,
and with no planning and completely ad libbed, it went pretty well. The
audience seemed interested and even asked enough questions to keep us
going. A lot of the people there even stopped by our booth afterwards
(not like the mention of MTAC shirts didn't help any though). I was
even asked to do a spot for a local anime music station, which I wish I
could listen to, but oh well. Plus, our booth was pretty awesome.
We
ended up using every grid we had to build it.
We ended up leaving this morning before the dealer room closed. A good
bit of the dealer room was already packing up, as they pretty much felt
they wouldn't get many more sales to match the few they made the
previous days. Take down of the booth didn't take too long, and we hit
the road back towards Nashville.
All in all, it was fun to hang out, but the con itself from the dealer
room wasn't too thrilling. I'm sure others had fun, but since the only
other part of the con I experienced was the panel Cole and I ran, I
don't really feel adequate enough to give an actual review of it. One
of the things about staying at the MTAC booth most of the time is that
I don't get to roam around too much, but I do get some feel of the
place from interacting with attendees, dealers, panelists, guests and
staff. This one seems like it can improve upon itself and be better
next year. | | |
